Description
Mono Lake, California.
I planned on hitting the trail in Yosemite this day for a backpacking trip in late June but an abnormal winter type storm rolled through the Sierra that weekend. I opted to stay in a motel in Lee Vining for the night and hit the trail in the morning - glad I did.
Here is sunset at South Tufa Beach, Mono Lake with the storm clouds surpassing the Sierra and hovering over Mono Lake. Perfect opportunity to do some shooting - unfortunately I wasn't the only one with that idea. There must have been 8 or 9 other photographers in the same section I was at. So when someone ducked their head out of the way I would snap away then look for a spot without someone and do it all over again. A good challenge is good sometimes...
The "tufa towers" you see above are limestone deposits that formed under water. You see them as towers rising above the lake today because of water diversions lowering the water levels. You have the City of Los Angeles to blame, or thank (depending on how you look at it) for that one.
